Dial Tone Test. PASS - Indicates that the modem can detect a dial tone on the phone line. FAIL - If this test fails, the simple connection test should also fail when using a phone line with dial tone. Usually, this is a problem with the phone line, phone cord, or connection. When using a phone line without a dial tone, making the modem ignore the dial tone might resolve Internet connection issues. To make the modem ignore a dial tone, use the following steps:.
